Wine Tasting Party
Hosting a wine tasting party is a fun idea, and one that your friends will eagerly attend. Keep in mind though that not everyone will have been to one before. Sending out a list of guidelines with the invitation can help them feel more at ease when they do show up. Make sure you have everything in order before the event too so that everything about the evening is perfect.
You will need to choose if you want to supply all of the wine for the party. If the cost of that is overwhelming, ask each guest to bring a bottle with them. If you can get the wine together before the guests arrive though it will work out the best. You want to make sure that no one is able to identify the wine they taste though the labels or the bottles. Instead you need to assign numbers or letters to the glasses you pour from each bottle.
Make sure each glass is identical. You can buy miniature wine glasses that are plastic for such an event. Most people don’t have a large number of real wine glasses on hand to use for such an occasion. You only want to fill the glasses about 1/3 of the way full. Make sure you offer plates of fresh bread for them to consume between tastings of wine as well.
Your guests should have a scoring card that they take around the room with them. They should be rating the wine on a scale of 1 to 10 for color, smell, and taste. As a bonus you can ask them to guess what type of wine and brand of wine it is as well. Offer a prize at the end of the night to your guest that got the most of them correctly identified.
As the guests complete the testing calculate the overall scores for the night. Then share them with your guests and also expose what wines you have offered. That way they can be sure to buy those that they really enjoyed the taste of. You will find that a wine tasting party is easier to host that you first imagined. You should also attend one when you get the invitation as it will be a whole new experience for you.
