History Of Pyramids
The history of pyramids dates back more than 4,500 years. They were first designed by the ancient Egyptians. These complicated structures served as a way for man to be reunited with the gods upon their death. This is why they are pointed at the tops as they reach out to the sky. At the same time, this is why the actual insides of the pyramids served as tombs for those that died.
Only the royalty and very important people of Egypt found themselves with the right to be buried in these pyramids though. The slaves of the era had to build these buy hand in the hot dry heat of the desert. Each pyramid took about 25 years to build, so a slave could spend a great deal of their life completing one of them.
Due to the complexity of building a pyramid, many people lost their life in the process. You have to remember that they didn’t have technology and machinery like we do today. Early drawings from ancient Egyptian times show the slaves pushing wheelbarrows of materials up the steep inclines of the pyramids. Others show them using rope to haul materials to the top parts of the pyramids.
You will find that the size of many of the pyramids allow them a place in history on that level as well. Many of them are taller than most skyscrapers that you will find in the large cities. When you consider the knowledge that the ancient Egyptians needed in order to securely build such structures, it really is fascinating.
Visiting the more than 100 remaining pyramids in Egypt is something most of us would like to do. Viewing pictures of them on TV and the internet doesn’t do them justice. There are fabulous vacations you can take to different areas of Egypt to see them yourself.
Today many people still find pyramids to be fascinated. Architects will tell you though that the designs are still quite complicated to complete. This is why you don’t see too many of these structures being built. They are very expensive to build and you can’t effectively use the space in them like you do with other types of structures.
